RoHS Compliance Testing
RoHS stands for the Restriction of Hazardous Substances. The RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and the updated RoHS 3 (EU 2015/863) provides information concerning restrictions of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. RoHS testing is non-destructive as detailed in EN 62321-1:2013 and includes the use of X-Ray Fluorescent Spectrometry (EN 62321-3-1:2014).

The XRF analyzer is placed in direct contact with the sample and bombards the cable material with X-Ray radiation which causes displacement of electrons in the atomic structure of the cable surface. As electrons fall back into the shells they emit or fluoresce energy. This energy can be measured and compared with the specific unique energies for each material type, allowing the determination of the presence of particular materials as well as their proportions within the material.
The RoHS test results are demonstrated by a Pass/ Fail criteria.
